“During a 3 weeks trip through Ethiopia in december 2009 we spent 3 days/ 2 nights in Simien Mountain. Our guide was Meles Yemata. He offers trips between some hours and several days. Together with some other local business people he is onWalksEthiopia.com and you can book him there. Or contact him by email firstname.lastname@example.org. He is an excellent expert of the mountains. We felt secure at every time. He knows every stone, every plant and every animal. He’s very attentive. So we could see a big flock of capricorn and took amazing pictures! He’s on facebook too: you will find a lot of fotos there. See how much fun you will have with him.”

“I’d like to highly recommend Meles Yemata as a great guide for a trip to the Simien Mountains. I went on a 3 week trek in November 2011 with him as one of the guides. It was organised really well, Meles is very local to the area and has fantastic local knowledge. He seemed to know everyone we encountered, has a great attitude towards the environment, and really looks after you. I was really there for the wildlife and landscapes and it was brilliant that he had such great knowledge of the mountains, the birds and the plants; it really added to the experience for me. His English is great, he is cheerful and always has time for you, and will ensure you have a LOT of fun. Look him up at www.walksethiopia.com/ – they run a wide range of trips to suit. Oh i almost forgot, the food was brilliant too!”

“I am from South Wales in the UK. Last November 2011 I visited Ethiopia for just over two weeks including a 10 day trek in the Simien Mountains. Whilst I had a tough time on trek I couldn’t have survived it without our local guide Meles Yemata. I was unfortunatly not 100% and required assistence some of the days including arranging arranging for mule support and local transport. However I was still able to return home with many great memories of the Gelada, birds of prey and truely unique landscape. The photos I took did not do the National park justice.
For those of you who may not know, in the rural areas many of the local population do not speak English meaning it was a blessing that Meles spoke very good English, so good in fact that it was easy to engage in free flowing conversation. This enabled myself and others to learn a great deal about Ethiopian culture from the local wildlife, the fauna, the way of life. His enthusiam and love of the region shone through and made the trip excellent.
I would recommend that any adventurous traveller trek these truely amazing mountains. You will be rewarded with a life changing experience. However it is criucial that you have a guide who knows the region, the environment and speaks good english for translation purposes. If I was to return I certainly would want a guide to his standard.
He is involved with a travel company called WalksEthiopia Tours which has a website http://www.walksethiopia.com. It caters for such adventure travel and more. For those who are looking for an independent trip not using the larger UK based organisations I don’t think you could go wrong with using Meles. He is very proactive in improving the local infrastructure assisting in development of basic schools and you can be assured that the local population will benefit from your visit. One day we visited a local school and was good to see that people are making a difference.”

“I used Meles Yemata as well…and had an excellent trip. He thought of everything…great chef, great guided routes, scenic points for sunset and sunrise, visits and time with local villages…and just overall a kind hearted, smart, practical person. Could not recommend him more!”
